The Police Unity Tour
The Police Unity Tour is a 300 mile memorial bicycle ride from New York City to Washington DC to raise awareness of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial. This year, 3000 law enforcement officers participated and raised $2.25M. Three SFPD members rode: Mission Station LT Ron Banta, Central Station Officer Mike Amoroso and Marine Unit Officer Matt Reiter.
Valentines Day Gift
On Sunday 02/14/16 (Valentine's Day) SFPD Mission Station members visited the Oshun Women's Drop-In Center at 211 13th Street. This homeless shelter provides services for up to 100 women.
Officer Justin McCall #1663 is a two year Department member and as a Mission Station Officer, has responded to numerous calls for service at this homeless shelter and has witnessed the hopelessness and despair on the women's faces there and felt he needed to act.
On his own time and using his own money, he prepared 100 Valentine's Day gift bags (containing flowers, candy, stuffed animals and hand written cards) and with the approval of Captain Dan Perea, embarked on a community engagement and went to the shelter with the Mission Station day watch crew to hand them out.
The women there were crying with thanks and were very appreciative that the police made their day special. McCall gave all of the extra bags to patrol officers to hand out to homeless women throughout the Mission District.
